#ad I received a gifted copy of this book and leave this review of my own accord. Many thanks to @tlcbooktours @harpermusebooks #partner and the authors @ariel.lawhon @kristina.mcmorris @susanmeissnerauthor

Written by three separate authors, this is a powerful and interwoven tale that follows the lives of three remarkable World War II nurses stationed in the South Pacific. Set against the backdrop of the Philippines in 1941, the book explores their unwavering friendship, resilience, and the sacrifices they had to make while facing the brutal realities of war.

The story centers around Eleanor Lindstrom, Penny Franklin, and Lita Capel who initially are drawn together by their desire to escape their troubled pasts. But then their lives take an unexpected turn when the U.S. military and the Imperial Japanese Army engage in a fierce battle.

As the conflict intensifies, the nurses find themselves thrust into the heart of war, forced to serve under wartime conditions, eventually becoming the first female prisoners.

The authors vividly depict the challenging circumstances these women face, from the horrid living arrangements to food shortages. You feel these scenes as you read them.

Despite the hardships, the nurses maintain their resilience and keep hope alive, not only for themselves but also for their fellow inmates. To survive this war they will need all the hope they can muster.

Based on a true story, this book is one of the best I have ever read. The struggles and enduring friendship of the three women portrayed in the book are touching and leave a lasting impression. It is one of those stories that stay with you long after you’ve finished reading it. I cannot praise this book enough.

I recommend to any reader who likes historical fiction, stories based around women, or just a heart-felt story. This book is fast-paced and full of action; a hard one to put down.
